THE STREET PROJECT is a documentary about humanity’s relationship to the streets and the global citizen-led fight to make communities safer.

With welcoming remarks by Oakland District 3 Councilmember Carroll Fife, and a discussion with safe streets advocates Tonya Love and Carter.

From managing teams and legislative agendas in the Oakland City Council and California State Assembly, to building health education programs for Black families and community-based organizations, she brings a deep commitment to creating systems that prioritize wellness, justice, and access. As former Chief of Staff for Oakland Clty Councilmember Carroll Fife, one of her focuses was to increase safety for bicyclists and pedestrians. She began her first term on Oakland's Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission in January 2026. She currently works for SF Bay Area Rapid Transit in Government and Community Relations. FEATURING PANELIST SPEAKER CARTER LAVIN Carter Lavin is a climate and transportation activist who helps organizations and individuals hone strategy and build political power. He has directly supported and trained non-profits, candidates, grassroots groups, businesses, and hundreds of individuals to win on the issues that matter to them at the local, regional, and state level. Carter lives in Oakland, California and is a cofounder of the transportation advocacy group Transbay Coalition and the author of the book, If You Want To Win, Youve Got To Fight: A Guide To Effective Transportation Advocacy (Princeton University Press).
