Hosted by Walk Oakland Bike Oakland, Transport Oakland, Bike East Bay, East Bay Transit Riders Union, and Transbay Coalition.

Confirmed candidates in attendance: Charlene Wang, Kanitha Matoury, Kara Murray-Badal, Harold Lowe, and Rev. Kenneth Anderson, PH.D

About the Candidates (bios provided by the candidates):

Charlene is a public servant who helped expand greenways and safe bike/ped infrastructure as a Biden Department of Transportation appointee. She previously worked to launch fare-free mass transit in Boston. A car-free Oaklander herself, Charlene understands the importance of transit-oriented development and safe trails. Charlene is endorsed by transit and bike safety leaders throughout District 2 because she’ll fight for streamlined traffic calming permits, a protected Lakeshore bike lane, and a San Antonio BART station.

Kanitha Matoury is a small business owner, mother, political refugee, and U.S. Air Force veteran running to represent District 2 in Oakland’s April 15th special election.

Kara Murray-Badal is a lifelong Oaklander and District 2 resident. As Housing Policy Manager for Terner Labs, she helps to direct funding for innovative affordable housing solutions across the country. She has also worked in multiple cities to advance alternative, unarmed ways of addressing public safety
