Women Bike Intern: 2020

Author: Bike East Bay

Date: January 17, 2019

Bike East Bay seeks a thoughtful, personable individual to support and grow our Women Bike program. Good candidates will enjoy engaging warmly with members of the public, be comfortable with some facilitation skills, and have a passion for connecting marginalized groups with community and with transportation options. Some knowledge of bicycling in the East Bay is required. Experience leading rides is a bonus. Curiosity and willingness to learn is a must. The ideal candidate will have a critical lens and awareness of social inequities, along with a drive to curate intersectional inclusive change.

Goals: Bring energy, enthusiasm, and diligence to existing programming. Connect with aligned and allied groups to connect new participants with our programming. Solidify a base in feminist-driven programming built around shared leadership, and progress to a leadership role in shaping the future of the program.

In the coming year, Bike East Bay seeks to revise and remake this program with a focus on racial and gender-based inclusivity. Lived experiences are highly valued in forging this new path, and applicants who hold identities that have historically experienced oppression are encouraged to apply. We acknowledge that the present name and framing of the program is not welcoming to some who may otherwise connect with this opportunity, and invite interested but concerned individuals to apply and include their concerns in their cover letter.

Most events are on evenings and weekends, and other weekly responsibilities may be performed remotely. We will strive to accommodate your other responsibilities, and request a firm commitment for the duration of the internship. 2-10 hours per week (varies seasonally), January to September 2020, with possibility of extension depending on budget and project status.

Interested candidates should send resume and cover letter to [email protected] by December 13. Compensation: $4,000 stipend, paid in monthly installments.
