Bike Valet Lead

Position
Bike East Bay is seeking a part-time Bike Valet Lead to support our organization in coordinating our Bike Valet program. Bike valet parking encourages more people to ride bikes and personal mobility devices, provides equitable access to community events, and serves as an engagement opportunity for Bike East Bay. In 2024, Bike East Bay relaunched its Bike Valet program after a four-year hiatus. Since its relaunch, we’ve hosted bike valets at 60+ events across Alameda and Contra Costa counties and parked over 1,500 bikes. The Bike Valet Lead will be responsible for maintaining client relations, scheduling Valet Attendants, managing valet materials, conducting event research and outreach, and working as a Valet Attendant at events as needed. The Bike Valet Lead will report to the Engagement Coordinator.
Primary Responsibilities*

- Support hiring Bike Valet Attendants
- Update bike valet request process, webpage & Valet Attendant Manual
- Recruit, train, and supervise Bike Valet Attendants
- Co-host annual Valet Attendant Training with Bike East Bay staff
- Inventory bike valet supplies and prepare/order additional supplies, as needed
- Manage the bike valet schedule and schedule shifts for Bike Valet Attendants
- Work as Bike Valet Attendant, as needed
- Manage relationships for one-off valet contracts; determine event-specific bike valet needs such as site location, equipment, staffing and related logistics
- Identify opportunities for bike valet at East Bay events
- Maintain storage unit, valet equipment and materials and coordinate pick-up and delivery with Bike Valet Attendants
- Manage transportation logistics, including van reservations
- Collaborate with Engagement Coordinator on volunteer needs and coordination
- Abide by and uphold the Bike East Bay Community Agreement
Desired Skills & Experience
- At least one year of bike valet, event planning, outreach, community organizing, or related experience
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with event organizers, volunteers, and the public
- General knowledge of bike makes and models
- High level of attention to detail and follow-through
- Highly organized with excellent time-management skills
- Experience supervising a team of staff members and volunteers
- An ability to work individually and as part of a team
- Commitment to social and racial justice and to Bike East Bay’s mission
- Proficiency in Google Suite
- Valid CA drivers license
- Ownership of personal vehicle is a plus
- Off hours availability (e.g weekends, week nights, holidays)
- Lift and transport valet equipment weighing up to 15 pounds
- Lift bikes weighing 25-60 lbs ~4 feet off the ground
- Travel to bike valet event sites around the East Bay
- Stand for extended periods of time
- Walk on uneven surfaces.

Compensation & Benefits
The Bike Valet Lead is a seasonal position from mid February-mid-August. Up to 10 hours/week. The salary range for this part-time exempt position is $28/hr-$32/hr. This position will entail work on weeknights and weekends in order to attend bike valet events. This position is based out of our office located in Jack London Square, Oakland, CA, via a combination of remote work, in-office activities, and on-location duties requiring interaction with Bike East Bay staff and members of the public. Expected start date is February 17, 2025.
