On Wednesday, Jul 22, 2026, more than 90 of Bike East Bay’s friends and family members got together for a fun, relaxing summer party.
Our outstanding partners at GU Energy Labs hosted us in their amazing garden at their headquarters in Berkeley. Surrounded by blooming sunflowers and summer squash, it was the perfect backdrop for lots of laughter and good vibes.
We had delicious food, beer and wine generously donated by Drake’s Brewing and Beaune Imports, and, of course, plenty of GU.
With the crucial Hopkins Street Protected Bikeway Vote at Berkeley City Council on Tuesday, 7/28, our attendees took the time to write personal postcards to the Mayor and other city councilmembers, encouraging their support of the bikeway project. Thanks to everyone’s action, Advocacy Director Robert Prinz mailed over 70 postcards from Summer Brake alone!
Our guests generously donated to participate in a drawing and won some amazing prizes, including a GU goodie (or “GU-die”) bag, a Bike to Wherever Day t-shirt, and a Lumos helmet.
A special shoutout to the winner of the Biketopia VIP tickets (which are on sale now!), who has never been to Biketopia before; we look forward to welcoming them this September 16 at Preservation Park!
Perhaps the most exciting moment of the evening was announcing the winners of the naming competition for our two bike trailers. After sorting through and voting on so many creative entries, it is our great honor to introduce you to… 🥁 Mariah Carry and Trailer Swift!
Our favorite times are when we can get together with all of you, connect, celebrate, and share the love for our biking community. Thank you to everyone who came out, and we hope to see you all again very soon.
