Bike the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge

Friday, May 20, 7:00am-11:30am

Friday, May 20th, is national Bike to Wherever Day! Come celebrate with us by biking from Richmond BART to the San Rafael Transit Center, stopping at an Energizer Station for snacks and tote bags along the way. If your commute destination is the transit center or the Larkspur Ferry we will help you make your connection, or you are welcome to ride with us round trip.

This event is led by instructors certified by the League of American Bicyclists and made possible with funding from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

Start: Richmond BART (plaza just west of the station, location here)

Distance: 24 miles (12 miles each way)

Route: ridewithgps.com/routes/37820415

Time (approximately):

  • Meet up at Richmond BART: 7-7:30am

  • Main ride (Richmond to San Rafael): 7:30-9am

  • Break in San Rafael: 9-10am

  • Return ride (San Rafael to Richmond): 10-11:30am (led by Bike East Bay, not as part of this MTC event)

This medium-paced, moderate difficulty ride will take us west from the Richmond BART station along the Richmond Greenway path, then on protected bike lanes to beautiful Point Richmond. From there we will continue up and over the scenic Richmond-San Rafael bike/walk path, then follow mostly bike lanes and paths to the San Rafael Transit Center.

Once we reach San Rafael we will make a short stop, so those who would like to join us should make sure to bring a bike lock or BikeLink locker card, and money for snacks or coffee. The official MTC ride ends at this point, but Bike East Bay instructors will ride back along the same route from San Rafael to Richmond starting at 10am, providing support to any participants who want to come along.

All adults are welcome to participate, and any youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All riders under 18 must wear a helmet.

A working bicycle is required for participation. A small number of electric-assist bicycles are available for adult participants to borrow.

Register here!
