Bike East Bay is looking for a dedicated volunteer to serve as our official representative on the Contra Costa County Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (CBPAC). This is a unique opportunity to have a direct say in how your community is built and to advocate for the needs of cyclists and pedestrians at the county level.
What is the CBPAC?
The CBPAC is a county-level committee that advises the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors and transportation staff. They review plans for new trails, weigh in on street redesigns, and help prioritize funding for active transportation projects.
By sitting on this committee as a Bike East Bay representative, you will be our voice in the room, ensuring that local projects align with our mission and values of Mobility Justice to create joyful, safe and inclusive communities.
What You’ll Do
- Attend Meetings Participate in the CBPAC meetings, which are typically held every other month on the fourth Monday at 11 AM at the Contra Costa Transportation Authority building in Walnut Creek. Meetings are in person.
- Advocate: Speak up for safe, equitable, and accessible bicycling and walking infrastructure in Contra Costa County.
- Collaborate: Review upcoming project proposals, county plans, and funding applications.
- Connect: Act as a liaison between the committee and Bike East Bay staff, sharing updates from the county and bringing Bike East Bay’s campaigns and priorities to the committee’s attention.
Who We’re Looking For
- A Contra Costa Resident: You must live in Contra Costa County to represent the community effectively.
- Passionate: You care deeply about active transportation, traffic safety, and community well-being.
- A Team Player: You are comfortable working with local government staff, other advocates, and community members.
- No Engineering Degree Required! You do not need to be a planner or traffic engineer. Your lived experience as someone who bikes, walks, or rolls in the East Bay is your most valuable qualification.
What We Provide
You won’t be doing this alone! Bike East Bay staff will provide you with ongoing guidance, and talking points on key county projects. We are here to support you so you can confidently advocate for better streets.
Time Commitment
Meetings are 2 hours long and take place once every 2 months. Expect to spend roughly 3-6 hours every two months, which includes preparing for and attending the committee meetings, as well as communicating with Bike East Bay staff.
