Keep your legs limber and cycle on over in support of your participating East Bay markets for the 2nd annual Bike to Market Day, May 21, 2011. Cyclists all over the East Bay will receive discounts and other selected goodies at participating markets when they make this day’s shopping trip by bike.
Participating markets include Whole Foods Oakland, Grocery Outlet (Oakland and Berkeley), Country Cheese (Berkeley), Alameda Natural Grocery, Farmer Joe’s (Oakland), The Foodmill, and the Monterey Market
The East Bay Bicycle Coalition, in collaboration with a selection of your favorite local markets, is encouraging you to make a habit of biking to your most routine destinations. Join in on Bike to Market Day on May 21st by pedaling to your local participating market where discounts or gift cards for merchandise will gladly be given to you when you reach the checkout stand and proudly display your “proof” (either helmets, bike gloves or bike jackets).
This event is one that Perri Kramer, the Marketing Team Leader at the participating Oakland Whole Foods Market, really looks forward to because, “It is one of the core programs that Whole Foods Market promotes; it treads lightly on the environment, encourages healthy lifestyles and encourages super-local community relationships in that there is only so far you can pedal on a bike to grab your groceries.” Perri looks forward to seeing cyclists at their Oakland store every day, but having an opportunity to really celebrate cyclists during Bike to Market Day on May 21st is something she enjoys every year.
