Bike Share Expansion Recap
Over the course of the summer, the Bay Area Bike Share system will grow from 700 bikes to 7,000 bikes, making it one of the largest and densest bike-share systems in North America. That includes target goals of 850 bikes in Oakland, 400 in Berkeley, and 100 in Emeryville. Of those, 20% will contractually be located in Communities of Concern.
The East Bay’s official launch date is July 11. Expect 32 stations to be on the ground by that date, with at least twelve new stations going in every week until all 116 are installed. The full roll-out should be complete by August. Check out the proposed deployment calendar:
Hey! How come there isn’t a station near me?
Motivate hosted community workshops in the East Bay and created an online map to ask people where stations would be popular. Read Motivate’s “Interim Outreach Report” here (PDF). However, not all of Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville will be served by bike share this summer.
But that doesn’t mean the outreach or the expansion is over! If you’d like to see the system expand or adapt to serve more people, let us know. Email advocacy@bikeeastbay.org.
