Bike Valet Attendant

Posted December 2024

Type

Part-time, Seasonal (mid March – early December)

Position

Bike East Bay is hiring part-time Bike Valet Attendants to join our Bike Valet program. Bike valet parking encourages more people to ride bikes and personal mobility devices, provides equitable access to community events, and serves as an engagement opportunity for Bike East Bay. This position is part of a dynamic team with a strong culture of celebrating success, accountability, and mutual support. Bike East Bay is committed to equity, social justice, and building leadership at all levels of the organization.

In 2024, Bike East Bay relaunched its Bike Valet program after a four-year hiatus. Since its relaunch, we’ve hosted bike valets at 60+ events across Alameda and Contra Costa counties and parked over 1,500 bikes. Bike Valet Attendants will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure bike valet at sporting events, festivals and core Bike East Bay events, in addition to promoting Bike East Bay. This is a great position for someone friendly, energetic, and wants to support more people commuting by bike and personal mobility devices. Bike Valet Attendants will report primarily to the Bike Valet Lead and, at times, the Engagement Coordinator.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Transportation of all valet equipment to and from event sites
  • Setup and breakdown of the valet area at events
  • Representing Bike East Bay and ensuring all signage and outreach materials are displayed
  • Working with volunteers at events to securely check-in, tag/identify, store, and return bikes
  • Relaying feedback from events to the Bike Valet Lead to continually improve the bike valet program
  • Managing valet materials and notifying Bike Valet Lead when supplies are low
  • Talking to valet users about Bike East Bay and providing information on membership, programs, activities, and events.
  • Abide by and uphold the Bike East Bay Community Agreement

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Commitment to providing a high-quality Bike Valet experience for all participants
  • Ability to train and manage volunteers
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to social and racial justice and to Bike East Bay’s mission
  • General knowledge of bike brands, makes and models
  • Comfortable working outdoors
  • Bicycle in good, working condition, and comfortable biking in the East Bay
  • Ability to use a bike to pull trailer of supplies
  • Valid CA driver’s license
Physical Demands include ability to:
  • Lift and transport valet equipment weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Lift bikes weighing 25-60 lbs ~4 feet off the ground
  • Travel to bike valet event sites around the East Bay
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Walk on uneven surfaces.

Don’t check off every box in the requirements listed above? Please apply anyway! Studies have shown that marginalized communities—such as women, LGBTQ+ and people of color—are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to still consider submitting an application.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a part-time, non-exempt position with a rate of $25/hr. This is an event-based, seasonal position (most events April – October). Ideally Bike Valet Attendants would work 1-3 events per week, shifts permitting.

Application Process

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume including two references via email to Valet@BikeEastBay.org. Please include “Bike Valet Attendant” and your name in the subject line. Attendants are expected to attend a mandatory, in-person training session in early March. Priority deadline for applications is February 14, 2025.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. No phone calls please.

Bike East Bay is committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all persons regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, marital status, political affiliation, sexual orientation or gender identity, disability, sex, or age.
