Ready to make 2010 the best year ever for bicycling in the East Bay? Please join us for the East Bay Bicycle Coalition’s Annual Retreat at Jack London Aquatic Center in Oakland. On January 23rd, EBBC staff, board, members and coalition partners will gather to discuss our campaigns and strategies for the coming year. Attending the annual retreat is a great way to get an in-depth look at our advocacy efforts, share your ideas for the future direction of EBBC, strengthen your ties to the bicycling community, and find out how you can get involved in making bicycling better in your town.

EBBC General Meeting

January 20, 2010 - 7:30pm to 9:00pm

Join us for our next EBBC General Meeting - for the first time on the third Wednesday. Incoming Chair Tom Ayres has suggested that we start meetings with a short entertaining video. We have a good one with a strong local appeal for all East Bay bicyclists!

  • Video: Bus & Bikes Sharing the Road - followed by a discussion of our new collaboration with AC transit and Bicycle Safety instructors to train bus drivers and cyclists alike
  • State Legislation in 2010 - a short overview of our campaigns in Sacramento
  • EBBC Volunteer Night

Velo Wonderland: A roaring good time had by all

Velo Wonderland: A roaring good time had by all

EBBC’s holiday party, Velo Wonderland, was a big hit! More than 250 bicyclists showed up to enjoy the festivities. Uptown Body and Fender was beautifully decked out, and the bike racks were packed to capacity. We toasted the inaugural ride of Linden Street Brewery’s cargo bike, with beer being served right off the bike. The specially-brewed Velo Wonderland Lager was a perfect compliment to the tasty snacks from Spice Monkey and delicious desserts from Commis. DJ Olga T kept party-goers bopping throughout the night.

Lots of excellent local art was on display, from kiwis made of bottle caps to mixed media bicycle posters. Wearable art, such as handmade cycling knickers and decorative buttons, tantalized, too.

You can check out the photos of Velo Wonderland on our flickr page. Thanks to Dustin Jensen for his great shots at the photobooth. Thanks to all of you who came and celebrated a year of successes at EBBC. See you next year!

We’d like to give a special thank you to our donors Uptown Body & Fender, Linden Street Brewery, Spice Monkey, OaksterCabs, Commis, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s, as well as our curator, Margo Rivera Weiss. Thanks also to our many member-volunteers!
