Sunday Streets Berkeley a Huge Success!

Author: bcomadmin

Date: October 16, 2012

An estimated crowd of 40,000 people attended the 1st ever Sunday Streets Berkeley this past Sunday and enjoyed an enriching mix and comfortable streets, lively entertainment, and local shops and restaurants eager to serve the happy visitors to Berkeley’s downtown. EBBC was honored to work with Livable Berkeley to coordinate over 100 volunteers for this large event, and now that it is such a tremendous success leaves one outstanding question: when is the next one? We are busy working with Livable Berkeley and the City of Berkeley to figure out how to make many more of these events happen. Look for a key City Council item in November. We also want to thank our outreach volunteers who talked up Measure B1 and bikes and the Hearst Avenue Bikeway Project to event participants as they stopped by our demonstration project right on Hearst Avenue. You helped us hand out countless B1 posters and flyers, our biggest push yet! Check out these photos of the Hearst bikeway on Flickr. We have some of the most energized outreach volunteers, who not only talking up B1 to voters but signed up 28 new members to EBBC and helped our bike safety team put over 100 kids through the paces of our bike safety course, right on Shattuck Avenue of course. If you have a photo to share, or an enjoyable experience, please post it to our Facebook Page Lots of media coverage for Sunday Streets Berkeley: Streetsblog Berkeleyside Daily Cal
