Richmond’s Climate Action Plan

In 2015 the City of Richmond began the process of creating a Climate Action Plan. This plan is a roadmap for how the City will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change on public health, infrastructure, ecosystems, and public spaces in our community. Climate Action Plans often include mode share targets and 

Richmond’s Climate Action Plan will: 

  • Establish goals for climate action in Richmond that link and address relationships between climate change, public health, and equity

  • Quantify current emissions and set emission reduction targets consistent with State and regional targets

  • Establish policies and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve community health and maximize co-benefits

  • Quantify the climate and health co-benefits of the policies and actions, and measure progress

  • Build community resiliency to prevent and prepare for climate change impacts throughout the City

How does this Climate Action Plan fit in with Richmond’s other plans? 

The Plan will support the community’s goals and policies establishe in the City’s General Plan. It will also build upon the City’s Health in All Policies Strategy which identified health equity and climate justice as important aspects of the Climate Action Plan.
