Richmond and Ohlone Greenways Connected At Last

Author: Bike East Bay

Date: April 13, 2018

With the opening of a new connection on April 27, 2018, you’ll finally be able to seamlessly walk and bike between the Richmond and Ohlone greenways. The new connection provides a safe crossing of San Pablo Avenue, a wide and high traffic street. The project extends the Richmond Greenway to link up with the Ohlone Greenway at Baxter Creek Gateway Park. Other green features include rehabilitating the natural creek area and revegetating the trail with native plants.

The City of Richmond cordially invites you to attend the Richmond-Ohlone Greenway Gap Closure ribbon cutting ceremony, beginning 11:00 a.m. (changed from noon!) on Friday April 27, 2018. Please meet at Baxter Creek Gateway Park. The ribbon cutting will be on the south side of the connection, the BART tracks cross over San Pablo Avenue and the Richmond Greenway. The event is fully accessible to people with disabilities.

For years, the Richmond Greenway and Ohlone Greenway ended within a block of each other with no easy way to get across busy San Pablo Avenue.  With two well-used paths connected, you’ll now be able to ride to and from Richmond and El Cerrito, as far south as North Berkeley BART and as far west as Unity Park.

The project was funded in part by the Safe Routes to Transit program, which is coordinated by Bike East Bay and Transform, and is funded through bridge tolls approved in 2004.
