Refineries an Obstacle to Bay Trail Connection from Crockett to Rodeo

Author: Bike East Bay

Date: June 15, 2016

Traffic studies show that traffic conditions on this entire route can be halved and still be operating under capacity.

The main confrontation is between the perceived needs of the oil refinieries and the vision of a regional Bay Trail network.

The data:

  • 12 collisions out of 27 in the past six years were from unsafe turning movements
  • Road diets reduce the rate of collisions by 29%

The East Bay is a fantastic place for people who like walking and biking along trails, whether for recreation, transportation, or exercise. Bike East Bay is currently participating or monitoring progress on trail network completion or creation in many different cities. For example:

  • Richmond and Ohlone Greenway Connection
  • San Leandro Creek Trail Plan
  • East Bay Greenway
