Union City has started designing new bike lanes along Union City Blvd, from Alvarado Blvd to Alameda Creek. Union City Blvd is a key bikeway connecting the Bay Trail to the Dumbarton Bridge bike path. Show your support for the design of a protected and separate bikeway by emailing Public Works Director Thomas Ruark, at [email protected] and copying our Advocacy Director Dave Campbell at [email protected].
Union City Blvd was originally going to be widened to three lanes of traffic, however, Bike East Bay convinced Union City to add protected bike lanes instead. This $9 million project to improve bike and pedestrian safety is funded by voter-approved Measure BB. The design of the bike lane is expected to be complete in early 2019, and construction is expected to be completed sometime in 2020.
