I am taking some time off to rest and reflect on all I have learned over these past six years as your executive director at Bike East Bay. We have grown not just an amazingly effective team of advocates, but also strong leaders for our organization.
During my leave of absence from February 27 through April 30, I am leaving Bike East Bay in the very capable hands of Advocacy Director Dave Campbell and Communications Director Ginger Jui. They will step up as Acting Co-Directors to share the role of leading our organization. Dave will be focused on our advocacy work and Ginger will be responsible for our community engagement strategies and business operations.
Seven years ago I had the chance to lead the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition as the acting executive director while then executive director Leah Shahum took an eight month sabbatical. That life-changing opportunity led me directly to taking on this role at Bike East Bay. I hope that my time away will be similarly enriching for our amazing team of staff and board leaders.
During this time away I will be enjoying a month long silent meditation retreat and will be visiting with family around the country. I look forward to returning at the beginning of Bike Month this May, rested and newly energized, to re-engage with the challenge of taking Bike East Bay to new levels of effectiveness.
Meet Your Acting Co-Directors
Dave Campbell recently celebrated 20 years with Bike East Bay. As Advocacy Director, Dave’s biggest campaign successes include bringing a billion dollars of biking, walking, and public transit funding to Alameda County through Measure BB, and winning the East Bay’s first parking protected bike lanes to Oakland’s Telegraph Avenue.
Ginger Jui is currently Bike East Bay’s Communications Director. Previously as Membership Manager, Ginger significantly grew the membership and volunteer programs by training new Bike Ambassadors, throwing volunteer parties, and leading outreach at events.
