In 2025 and beyond, there will be free bike vouchers, bike repair popups, community bike rides, advocacy trainings, opportunities to provide feedback on the East Bay Greenway, and bike safety classes.

The City of Hayward has secured funding to enable a citiwide bicycle giveaway, consisting of 200 new bikes for adults & teens. Bike East Bay will share information on how to get a voucher as soon as the information is available to the public.
Bike East Bay will collaborate with the City of Hayward to identify locations for new bike racks & lockers.
When fully completed, the East Bay Greenway will be a 30-mile facility connecting from Oakland to Fremont via a series of continuous low-stress bike facilities, primarily trails and protected bikeways. Bike East Bay is advocating for this as one of our major campaigns, with Hayward as a key community.
Visit our East Bay Greenway page for a full map and in depth info on it.
A major barrier to biking in Hayward is the lack of access to local bike shops, after the recent closure of the one shop which had been serving the area for over 25 years.
To help address this need, a bike repair tent will operate, setting up at Hayward Farmers Markets throughout the year to offer free repairs.
Our full Green Mobility Ambassadors (GMA) training series will take place in Hayward. This is an innovative program Bike East Bay has led in other cities, which prepares individuals to engage in their own advocacy and education on transportation projects and
programs. Topics may include:
● All About Bikeways – Learn about different types of transportation and
accessibility facilities, what they do and how they’re used
● Make Yourself Heard – Information about civic engagement and making
effective comments at public meetings
● Hazard Reporting: Potholes & More – Information on how to identify and
report maintenance issues and construction hazards, and get them fixed
● Environmental & Mobility Justice Training – A short history of urban
development in the United States, how to identify neighborhood impacts and
advocate for equitable changes
● Urban Cycling: Classroom Workshops & Road Classes – Learn safety skills
and how to have more fun on every bike trip
Participants who attend the GMA training series may be eligible to register for a League of American Bicyclists instructor certification seminar held at the Bike East Bay office every year, with all registration fees and expenses covered. Graduates of this certification will then have the opportunity to continue working with Bike East Bay as a paid bike ed instructor or advocacy outreach partner, increasing capacity for these activities in Hayward by employing individuals with local expertise.
The city has already completed 4 miles of separated bikeways via 7 projects, mostly incorporated into routine paving, and has major infrastructure projects planned including the East Bay Greenway, San Lorenzo Creek Trail, and the Eden Greenway. We will be celebrating bikeway grand openings, such as a raised cycletrack on Mission Blvd.
