Bike East Bay seeks energetic board members committed to forwarding our mission of promoting healthy, sustainable communities by making bicycling safe, fun and accessible. Bike East Bay’s board of directors provide strategic and financial oversight for the organization. Board members play a key role in fundraising and supporting staff as volunteers and advisors. Currently, we are seeking new board members with skills in organizational development, foundation fundraising, financial strategy, and human resources. All board members bring or are committed to developing a strong understanding of social justice and racial equity issues in relation to transportation and urban planning. You’ll also work alongside your amazing fellow board members.

Commitment

Starting March 1, 2025, as a board member, you commit to the following:

  • Serve up to two, three year term,

  • Attend 4 quarterly board meetings  (typically, 2 meetings are virtual and 2 in-person) and, in some years, a retreat

  • Serve on at least one committee (Governance, Finance, Fundraising or Advocacy) and attend monthly committee meetings, which are often held virtually

  • Donate at a personally significant level

  • Participate in Bike East Bay fundraising efforts, including at fundraising events and through annual phonebanking calls to members
  • Support, promote and grow Bike East Bay’s mission and social justice values

  • Uphold your legal and fiduciary duties as a board member.

  • Complete the annual Board of Directors Fundraising & Engagement Pledge

Transportation justice is an essential part of our work as bicycle advocates and we are committed to working for equity and social justice.

Please fill out the board application form below by December 13, 2024. The Board Governance Committee will review and contact all candidates on a rolling basis. The board will propose new board members to be voted on by Bike East Bay members in February 2025.
