Vote No on Prop 6
Proposition 6 on the November ballot seeks to repeal SB1, a 2017-approved gas tax increase that provides needed funding for public transportation improvements and to fix crumbling roads. Please vote no on Proposition 6. SB1 doubles funding for the State Active Transportation Program (ATP) to build more bike lanes, bike bridges, and pedestrian safety improvements. It also provides funding to buy new AC Transit buses and BART cars. SB1 is already being put to work repaving streets in your city and the ATP is funding these important projects:
ATP Projects in Progress or Complete
-
Pinole Shores to Bay Front Park Bike-Ped Bridge (Pinole): East Bay Regional Parks District cut a ribbon on its newest Bay Trail segment – a new bike-ped bridge connecting Bay Front Park in Hercules to Pinole Shores.
-
Sidewalk and Bike Lane Improvements along MacArthur Blvd (Oakland): Construction is underway along MacArthur Blvd to build wider bike lanes and sidewalks between the Laurel District and Mills College. This project is the second piece of Phase 1 of the LAMMPS Project, which completely redesigns MacArthur Blvd around the college campus, connecting Mills College to the Laurel District and Seminar Ave.
-
East Bay Greenway (Oakland-San Leandro-Hayward): The East Bay Greenway is a multi-use pathway from Lake Merritt BART to Hayward. It has been designed and received environmental clearance, thanks to ATP funding. The Alameda County Transportation Commission is seeking funding from the ATP for construction, the first part of which will start in East Oakland.
-
Cross Alameda Trail (Alameda): A multi-use pathway connecting Constitution Way to Clement Ave. It’s part of multiple improvements in the area, including a two-way, protected cycle track on Ralph Appezzato Pkwy and an upgraded multi-use pathway to the west.
ATP Projects Opening Soon:
-
Telegraph Avenue (Oakland): In 2019, Telegraph Ave. in Temescal is getting repaved with parking-protected bike lanes and temporary bus boarding islands. In 2020, Telegraph Avenue in KONO District will get a major overhaul, with raised curbs between on-street parking and bike lanes, permanent bus boarding islands, continuous curbside protected bike lanes, and bike traffic signals to get you safely thru major intersections.
-
9th Street Connection (Berkeley): Opening in 2019, the 9th St. connection will close a three-block gap connecting 9th Street in Berkeley to Doyle Street in Emeryville. This project is by far the longest running bike project in the East Bay, longer than the East Span Pathway, and started in 1998. Good things come to those who wait.
