Bicycle Education Program Fellow job opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and passionate Bicycle Education Program Fellow starting as soon as possible, contracted through the end of June 2015. Up to 20 hours of work per week will be available paid at $15 per hour, focusing on class attendee communication, event promotion, and data entry/office work. Applicants should have strong writing and data entry skills and enjoy working in non-profit environment. Proficiency in spoken or written Spanish or Cantonese/Traditional Chinese, familiarity with the East Bay, and a passion for healthy and active transportation are appreciated.

 

The Bike East Bay Education Program provides approximately 150 free classes every year to adults, youth, and families in English, Spanish, and Cantonese, all over the East Bay. Learn more about this program online at BikeEastBay.org/education. This position will not include any class instruction, although applicants interested in pursuing a bicycle education teaching certification will be provided support in doing so. The Bicycle Education Program intern will report to the Education Director, and will work closely with the Executive Director as well as other Bike East Bay staff and board members.

Skills and Knowledge to be Gained

  • Inside experience with a highly active and growing non-profit organization in an office environment

  • Event planning and promotion experience

  • Social media communications experience

  • Academic credit, by working with your academic institution’s internship program

  • Potential to gain a bicycle education teaching credential and begin instructing courses professionally

Requirements

 Essential:

  • Interest in bicycle education and skills training

  • Excellent writing and email communication skills

  • Track record of working well individually as well as on collaborative projects

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Web/database experience

  • Social media experience (Facebook, Twitter, etc)

Helpful:

  • Familiarily with Google Docs suite and Gmail

  • Spanish or Chinese-language writing skills

  • Knowledge of CiviCRM or other database software systems

  • Graphics savvy (Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

  • Familiarity with bicycling in the East Bay

  • Commitment to building a bike-friendly East Bay
