BICYCLE-FRIENDLY BERKELEY COALITION Established in 1995 with a community meeting. The effort to develop a bike plan had been languishing by the city. The organizing goal behind BFBC was to get a bike plan developed and passed.
Active Involvement:
- Bike Station expansion
- Berkeley Climate change plan
- Bicycle rental plan
- Gilman Street improvements
- Implementation of the Bike Plan, particularly the Bike Boulevards
- Bike parking at community events
Previous Accomplishments:
- Proposed that the city add $70,000 for bike improvements to the city budget which continues to this day
- Developed and advocated for the passage of the City of Berkeley Bike Plan which included a system of bicycle boulevards
- Advocated for and was part of the planning for the Bike/ Pedestrian Bridge that goes from Aquatic Park over I-80 to the Marina.
- Developed the Bike Station along with East Bay Bicycle Coalition and BART and was the managing organization for the first nine years.
- Involved with advocating for various legislation both local and statewide
