Bay Bridge West Span: in 3D

Author: Bike East Bay

If you didn’t get a chance to see into the future of the Bay Bridge at our Biketopia celebration last week, the West Span People Path design is officially ready for public review – and you’re invited. Come join hundreds of excited bicycling enthusiasts at a public open house in San Francisco on November 19, and prepare to be wowed.

Put on virtual reality goggles and stroll the people path in 3D. You’ll look out over the railing at passing ships, gaze up at birds swooping past the bridge towers, and be fully transported to the  (not-so-distant!) future of the East Bay to San Francisco connection. Two and a half years in development, the preferred design option for the West Span People Path is coming you won’t want to miss this.

Soon, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission will officially vote to move the project forward into environment review and final approval. Included in this will be a funding package to build the Yerba Buena Island pathway piece, connecting the East Span touchdown on Yerba Buena to Treasure Island. Bike East Bay will continue to work closely with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, and let you know which Commissioners you need to contact to move this project from virtual reality to actual reality.
