East Bay Bicycle Coalition is pleased to be supporting our Coalition partner, Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO) in the creation of Oakland’s first Sunday Streets, Oaklavia. For one car-free Sunday, you can explore the vibrancy of Old Oakland dancing to live Latin music, and enjoy the urban landscape of West Oakland with circus arts at Kinetic Arts Center. You’ll also find dance classes provided by the YMCA, bike repair classes by Love Your Bike, and food carts to fuel you. The Bicycle Coalition will be hosting a Bike Safety Festival complete with Kids Bike Rodeo and Learn-to-Ride-a Bike classes for kids and adults. We’ll also be hosting Parklets for People: Creative re-use of street space for cafes, retail and public enjoyment.
Oaklavia is sure to be a hit, but we need lots of volunteers to make it happen! Volunteers will help with EBBC outreach and assisting with the Bike Safety Fest. No prior experience is necessary - the only prerequisite is enjoying smiling bicyclists.

In the last three years, Sunday Streets events in San Francisco have proven to be incredibly successful – growing from two events in 2007 to nine events planned for 2010, due to the popularity among residents, business owners and local government.
Walk Oakland Bike Oakland is excited to give Sunday Streets some Oakland flair – Oaklavía will take the concept of street festival to the next level, allowing residents to experience the city’s best natural and architectural assets, outdoor activities, and arts in some of our most well-loved and unique streets and neighborhoods.OaklaviaLogo.jpg Parklet.jpg parklet.png
