Climate Ride 2012 Recap

Last week, our team of seven courageous team climate riders, as well as many additional riders supporting the East Bay Bicycle Coalition, rode into San Francisco for a press event at SF City Hall to celebrate a big accomishment-completing a 320 mile, 5-day journey from the redwoods to the Northern California Coast, into wine country, then cattle country, thru the Marin headlands and across the Golden Gate Bridge, while raising tens of thousands of dollars for bike advocacy.

The ride is not only spectacularly gorgeous, but it’s a wonderful team-building experience of a lifetime. Everyone should do this ride! We want to thank our supporters and give a special shout out to those who contributed while the team was riding 320 miles to raise money to make your bike commute better. You upped our total raised to over $22,000. In the end, over 300 supporters generously donated to the team and helped us raise money to combat climate change by promoting bicycling as a healthy and green option for everyone.

Our team of riders consisted of Joan Cardellino, Alden Mudge, Mimi Torres, Jay Ruzicka, Phil Morton and team co-captains Rick Rickard and Dave Campbell.

In addition to our team of seven, the following awesome riders selected the East Bay Bicycle Coalition as one of their beneficiaries of the Climate Ride 2012: Ann Cleaveland, David Arkin, Olivia Dempster, Ivan Samuels, Jeff Maddox, Leah Marthinsen, Scott McGlashan, Laura Brannen, Kim Hedges, Shiloh Burton.

All have received EBBC “Beautiful Machine” t-shirts and complimentary one-year memberships in EBBC. And while on the ride, many supporters signed up as members of the East Bay Bicycle Coalition, including Zachary Warnow, Chris Porto, Elizabeth Schorn, Amy Dickie, Alberto Solis, Tomaso (on staff) and Max Baumhefner. Thank you all for having a great ride yourselves and for supporting our work to improve bicycling in the East Bay.
