When We Say Safe Streets…

We are deeply disturbed by the recent federal deployments and actions in Los Angeles, and the broader targeting of immigrant communities happening across the country. We stand against the violence and suppression happening in our public spaces.

As an organization, we fight for safe streets where people come first. And when we say “safe streets,” we also mean the freedom to gather, protest, and stand with our community in solidarity without fear of police or military violence.

We strive for mobility justice, and imagine a world where people can be their full selves while moving through public spaces. This includes being able to move between our homes, workplaces, and schools without the fear of being abducted, harassed, or detained without due process.

Many folks support us because we are committed to building better bikeways, smoother roads, and safer intersections – and that work is incredibly important! But safety goes beyond the physical road; it’s about how we share power and how we look after one another. It’s imperative for us to align our work with a broader, intersectional movement for a more just, inclusive, and equitable world. Bicycles are our tool, freedom for all is our goal.
