Want to see more bike/ped bridges get built over freeways and busy roadways in Contra Costa? Plan first–then build

RTP logoNow through April is cyclists’ time to ask the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) for ‘big-ticket’ bike projects in the upcoming Contra Costa Countywide Transportation Plan-a 25-year planning document that guides what gets built. We are looking for “big ticket” projects of at least $1 million here.

Projects the Bicycle Coalition wants to see included are:

  • Bike/Ped Overcrossing of SR 4 Bypass in Antioch/Brentwood
  • Bike/Ped Bridge over I-680 connecting Pleasant Hill with Concord
  • Iron Horse Trail Bike/Ped Bridge over Bollinger Canyon Drive in San Ramon
  • Richmond-Ohlone Greenway Connection $1,560,000
  • Richmond Greenway Overcrossing of BART tracks at 23rd St
  • Pleasant Hill BART Short Cut Path
  • Lafayette Bike-Ped Pathway along EBMUD Aquaduct

Please attend one of the upcoming meetings in Antioch, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, San Pablo and Orinda. Let the CCTA know that you support important bikeway projects in the Countywide Transportation Plan. You can also contact your local city bicycle planner (or transporation planner) and ask them to submit ‘Big Ticket’ bikeway projects for the Plan.

‘Big Ticket’ bike projects such as the Bike/Ped Bridge over Treat Blvd in Walnut Creek (shown below) require a lot of money to build and need to be listed in the Countywide Plan in order to get built
