Everybody knows that California’s economy is in need of a little love. But what a lot of people don’t know is that investing in transportation is one of the best ways to save and create jobs – and fast. A recent report showed that in the 2009 stimulus act, a dollar spent on transit funding created twice as many jobs as a dollar spent on new highway construction. Right now, the Senate is drafting a jobs bill that can provide CPR for our ailing transit systems and the California economy, but we need to act fast.
Transit is an important part of creating bicycle-friendly communities, allowing cyclists to travel long distances and traverse areas with difficult bike access. Send Senator Boxer a valentine to let her know how much you love transit, and urge her to make sure bicycle-friendly transportation can help drive California’s economic recovery!
