Bike East Bay seeks an outgoing and self-starting individual to assist with membership outreach and event planning during Fall 2015. Responsibilities will include leading an outreach campaign coinciding with the grand opening of protected bike lanes on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, conducting outreach at community events, and event planning for our winter member party Biketopia.
The position starts Sept. 1, requires 8-15 hrs/week and a 12 week commitment. We can accomodate a flexible schedule, but you must be available 9/20 (Love Our Lake Day), 10/18 (Berkeley Sunday Streets), and 11/12 (Biketopia), plus some evenings and weekends. The stipend for this position is $1000.
The Outreach and Event Fellow will be supervised by the Membership Manager and will work closely with the Event Manager.
Roles and Responsibilities:

Organize and lead outreach stations to coincide with grand opening of protected bike lanes on Telegraph Avenue this fall.

Lead and/or assist Bike East Bay outreach booths at community events, including Oakland Pride, Love Our Lake Day, Berkeley Sunday Streets, and bike valet events.

Write and design communications content, including newsletter articles, social media, and blog posts to publicize outreach events.

Support Bike East Bay’s winter membership and fundraising party Biketopia by helping solicit donations, providing assistance in setting up, organizing, and wrapping up the auction, as well as providing general logistics help in preparation for the event.

Complete office tasks related to membership outreach.
Requirements
Essential:

Outgoing, well-spoken personality with previous public relations, canvassing, and/or customer service experience.

Interest and/or experience in bicycle advocacy and community outreach.

Excited about growing Bike East Bay by signing up new members and informing the public about our work.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Be a self-starter able to take initiative on individual projects.

Feel comfortable making donation asks to local businesses.

Flexibility, attention to detail, follow-through and the ability to meet deadlines.

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Apps.

Familiarity with social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

Familiarity with biking in the East Bay.

Smartphone and ability to use Square for credit card processing.

Interest and ability to ride a cargo bike while pulling a loaded bike-trailer (training is provided).
