On May 21, Oakland released promising designs for protected bike lanes on 14th Street downtown, extending from Oak Street to Brush Street (980). Designs include bus boarding islands and protected transitions connected to new two-way cycle tracks on deck for Franklin Street and Lakeside Drive. OakDOT is working with merchants on design details and hopes to finalize plans this year and start construction in the second half of 2020.

14th Street project is funded by a State Active Transportation Program grant received in 2015 and Measure BB, Alameda County’s transportation sales tax program. Oakland’s iBond provides matching local money. Bike East Bay members helped secure voter approvals of both Measure BB in 2014 and Oakland’s iBond in 2016.
