Richmond City Council Approves Carlson Crosstown Connection

Author: Bike East Bay

Date: December 22, 2016

Tuesday December 20, Richmond City Council showed its commitment to improving the safety and health of residents by voting to start construction on the Carlson Crosstown Connection project. The new Carlson Blvd will make it easier for people to cross and bike along the street by narrowing the street and slowing speeding traffic – which currently averages well over the posted speed of 35mph. The project will also add over 40 curb ramps for wheelchair users and improve access to bus stops.

We interact with our streets everyday, and their design has significant impact on our quality of life. We’re confident that the new Carlson Boulevard, with its wide and comfortable bike lanes, improved access to transit, and greatly improved connections to local trails, will have a positive impact on the health and happiness of residents.

Thank you to the organizations, community members and residents who helped champion this project and who turned out in support at City Hall, who spoke with their neighbors, and who signed our petition. Thanks to you, Richmond will soon complete one more important piece of its bikeway network.

Bike East Bay is committed to making this a project that not only benefits as many people as possible but also brings us together. We look forward to organizing more rides and events that will bring people out to enjoy their streets, open space, and trails.
