East Bay Bikeshare Station Maps Unveiled

Earlier this year Motivate, the operator of Bay Area Bikeshare, began a round of community meetings to gather feedback on station locations for the program’s expansion to the East Bay.

Now, Motivate has unveiled the close-to-final station maps for Phase I of the expansion, which aims to have bikes on the ground before the end of the year. The maps are available online for public comment:

Ride for Free on Bike to Work Day

Bay Area Bike Share is celebrating Bike to Work Day by offering free rides to all on Thursday, May 12!

If you’ve been wanting to take the system for a spin, now is your chance. Sign up today at bayareabikeshare.com/btwd to receive a 24-hour code via email. On May 12, visit any Bay Area Bike Share kiosk, swipe a card, and redeem your code. The 24-hour pass, normally $9, will cost nothing! Standard overage fees still apply to trips over 30 minutes.

Expansion recap

Over the course of a two year phased roll out in San Francisco, San Jose, and the East Bay, the Bay Area Bike Share system will grow from 700 bikes to 7,000 bikes, making it one of the largest and densest bike-share systems in North America. That includes target goals of 850 bikes in Oakland, 400 in Berkeley, and 100 in Emeryville. Of those, 20% will contractually be located in Communities of Concern.

The bikes will be installed in the East Bay in three phases, with approximately 25% of bikes for Phase 1 (Fall 2016), 15% for Phase 2 (Spring 2017), and 60% for Phase 3 (Summer/Fall 2017).
