New Bay Trail Connection at Lone Tree Point

Author: Bike East Bay

A beautiful new half-mile of Bay Trail will be opening next month, along the San Pablo Bay at Lone Tree Point in Rodeo. This long-awaited gap closure gets us very close to a complete trail and all-ages bikeway between Richmond and Vallejo for the first time ever. Plan your trip and read more about what’s coming next!

Over the past few years we have celebrated additional Bay Trail gap closures nearby on Goodrick Ave., at the Dotson Family Marsh south of Point Pinole, a new bike/walk trail and bridge over the train tracks at Bayfront Park, and connections around the Bio-Rad facility along the Hercules shoreline.

Planning around the final gap from Point Pinole to Wilson Point is now underway, which when completed will provide a continuous stretch of off-street, paved bike trail facilities from Richmond to Rodeo. An additional project to the north will then add an on-street protected bikeway along San Pablo Ave. to connect to the Carquinez Bridge path, providing a safe, all-ages bikeway link between our Bay Trail in the East Bay and Vallejo for the first time ever.

Hugging the shoreline, the new Lone Tree Point trail features great views of San Pablo Bay and a new 200’ bridge spanning a wetland watershed. An accessible staging area and restroom on site is also planned to open sometime in July 2021. This project was constructed by the East Bay Regional Parks District, and made possible with funding from voter approved Measures WW and AA, an Urban Greening Cap & Trade grant, Contra Costa Transportation Authority Measure J, CA Coastal Conservancy Bay Trail support, and the Transportation Fund for Clean Air.
