Thanks to all who joined us for our 2026 Member Meeting! Just over 100 people filled the community space at Sports Basement in Berkeley. It was a great turnout for a drizzly week– we were so glad to catch up with one another, eat some pizza, enjoy some great drinks (our friends at Drake’s Brewing Co. always keep us well-supplied, thank you!) and celebrate all the progress we’re building together.
Our interactive activities this year focused on our San Pablo Avenue Campaign: there are multiple projects and touchpoints slated for the next few months, and we’ll be ready to offer our ideas and advocate for the safest streets possible. Members shared their favorite spots along San Pablo Ave, and also let us know what types of programming we should plan this year to get folks to tap in. You can read the latest about this campaign here!
We had a few special guests at the mic:
- Transportation Community Organizer Rebecca Mirvish shared about the Connect Bay Area Transit ballot measure, and invited people to volunteer with the campaign.
- Berkeley Councilmember Igor Tregub shared about upcoming projects in the city that will continue making it a fantastic place to bike.
- Our awesome partners from Sports Basement presented us with a check for $2,102– funds that directly come from wonderful members like you, who have designated Bike East Bay as the recipient of 10% of every Sports Basement purchase you make.
During the program, Co-Executive Directors Justin, Jill & Rebecca shared our progress with our Strategic Plan. There was a lot to celebrate, but some highlights from just the last year include:
- Growing our email list from 16,000 to 21,000 contacts
- Hitting our membership goal of welcoming 500 new Bike East Bay members each year
- Sharing our work at national, statewide, regional and local summits (with a particular focus on our mobility justice framework)
- Hiring 3 Cantonese-speaking instructors, and hosting Cantonese classes for the first time
- Investing in and building a staff and board whose demographics reflect those of the East Bay, and rolling out new benefits including parental leave, sabbaticals, 38 hour work weeks and more
- Advocating for more separated bikeways, and helping get 35 new ones installed in 2025 (that’s over 7 miles of great infrastructure!)Â
Board Chair Eric Monek Anderson helped us round out the program by facilitating the election of our newest board members. After hearing remarks from each of their candidates, we’re thrilled to welcome Shannon Tracey, Ben Eversole, Geoffrey Sylvester and Estrella Sainburg to our Board of Directors. Their photos and bios will soon be added to the Board page of our website.
We closed out the event with a massive group photo, a few extra slices of pizza, and then a couple dozen folks headed over to Cornerstone with us to compete in our 2nd annual game of “Transit Trivia.” Drinks poured, prizes were distributed, and the difficulty level of our trivia questions brought out some friendly competition.
Thanks again to all who joined us. We appreciate every member who believes in our work and keeps our movement rolling!
