Measure B1 delivers yet another new bikeway for you to enjoy. We celebrated the grand opening and the connecting of the Alamo Canal Trail in Dublin/Pleasanton on October 27, as many elected officials, Congressmembers, City Councilmembers, Mayors and super-VIP’s came to the Tri-Valley to enjoy the opening of this key bikeway link in our East Bay Regional Bikeway Network. It took 7 years to complete, but your support for Measure B1 and the Federal Tiger II grants of 2010 paid off to finish this 700ft gap in a rapidly growing network of multi use pathways in the Tri-Valley.
“I never realized how close Club Sport Pleasanton is to Dublin City Hall. I can now easily go to my gym during lunch every day,” Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti exclaimed after riding the new bikeway connection.
Hundreds of people were on hand, including many of our members as well as members of the Valley Spokesmen bike club, to rub elbows with elected leaders and then ride the new bikeway connection. Supervisor Scott Haggerty kicked off the press event by reminding everyone of the funding source that build this new bikeway-Measure B1, and then encouraged everyone to support the reauthorization of Measure B1. Haggerty also pointed out that Measure B1 will fund many more bikeways in his hometown of Dublin as well as all of Alameda County. It was great to hear an elected official repeatedly highlight the importance of the bike/ped projects, and give EBBC credit for the support we got for the 4-fold increase in bike/ped funds in Measure B1. 
Mayor Mark Green of Union City soon followed with some candid remarks.
“It pains me somewhat to say this, but Measure B1 has more money in it for bike/ped projects than freeway projects,” an honest Mark Green acknowledged.
It wasn’t really that painful, as Green had on his running shoes that day and set out for a jog soon after the ribbon cutting. After the grand opening of the Alamo Canal Trail, Mayor Tim Sbranti and Dublin City Councilmember Eric Swalwell joined the East Bay Bicycle Coalition for an advocacy ride in Pleasanton/Dublin to survey the new Measure B1-funded bike lanes on Hopyard Road and the new bikeway being constructed between Stoneridge Rd and Jack London Blvd, which will connect Pleasanton to North Livermore. It’s projects like these that the passage of Measure B1 can help fund. The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) in collaboration with the cities of Dublin and Pleasanton, Zone 7 Water Agency, and Caltrans has closed one of the last gaps in the regional bicycle trail network between the communities of Pleasanton and Dublin. This greatly needed freeway undercrossing trail will provide a safe, non-motorized route that children and adults can use to travel between schools, homes, and major public destinations in Dublin and Pleasanton. This trail link will provide an important 
transportation route to travel to and from destinations including the Pleasanton BART station, bus routes, minor and major shopping areas and malls,community parks, Alameda County Fairgrounds, major corporate business offices and employment centers, the civic centers, libraries, and popular downtown areas of Dublin and Pleasanton. Funding sources for the $2,000,000 project include the Federal STIP-TE and TIGER II programs, Alameda County’s Measure B, EBRPD’s Measure WW, and the cities of Dublin and Pleasanton.
