Internship Openings for Bike to Work Day

The East Bay Bicycle Coalition is seeking motivated and energized interns to work on Bike to Work Day planning, promotion and implementation for the big event scheduled May 13, 2010. EBBC is offering a $500 stipend for each intern position, which is a part-time position, with at least an 8-week commitment and flexible hours.

We have several areas of focus for each intern position:

    Internship Openings for Bike to Work Day

    The East Bay Bicycle Coalition is seeking motivated and energized interns to work on Bike to Work Day planning, promotion and implementation for the big event scheduled May 13, 2010. EBBC is offering a $500 stipend for each intern position, which is a part-time position, with at least an 8-week commitment and flexible hours.

    We have several areas of focus for each intern position:

    • Press/Media Intern: work in this area will include developing press releases for Bike to Work Day and following up with media outlets to promote expanded media coverage of Bike to Work Day. Work will include developing stories for Bike to Work Day, doing background research, collecting data and interviewing bicyclists. This person will work closely with EBBC’s Outreach Coordinator, EBBC’s Bike to Work Day Coordinator and our Events Subcommittee;
    • Event Planning Intern: work in this area will include work on Bike to School Day activities, Bike to the Supermarket Day, Bike Night at the Movies, Bike to the Park Day, and our biggest event–Bike Away from Work Party. Work will include close collaboration with EBBC coalition partners who are planning events. This person will work closely with EBBC’s Outreach Coordinator, EBBC’s Bike to Work Day Coordinator and our Events Subcommittee;
    • Energizer Station Intern: work in this area will include coordinating energizer station hosts and volunteers, training volunteers, soliciting donations, creating energizer station maps, coordinating energizer stations on day of Bike to Work Day, gathering bike counts and creating reports. This person will work closely with EBBC’s Outreach Coordinator, EBBC’s Bike to Work Day Coordinator and our Events Subcommittee;

    Applicants should have strong people skills and enjoy working in non-profit environment. Living and going to school or having worked in the East Bay are a real plus.

    Qualifications may include:

    • familiarity with the East Bay, it’s cities, public agencies and regional transportation planning agencies such as BART, Caltrans, East Bay Regional Parks, etc.
    • familiarity with our coalition partners, such as Transform, local bicycle coalitions, Sierra Club, etc.
    • computer skills including database, word processing, and graphics
    • online outreach skills including website, html, email, and social networking
    • good communication skills
    • highly self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
    • fundraising/development skills are a plus
    • spanish or chinese language skills are a plus
    • women and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply

    The hours for each Bike to Work Day intern position are flexible and the East Bay Bicycle Coalition will provide a stipend. Position will require some work on weeknights and weekends, as many activities occur after work on weekdays and on weekends. Work will include time in the EBBC office at Fruitvale Village and out of office as needed. There will be opportunities to work from home or school.
