On October 17, 2012, Oakland Public Works Department made a presentation to City Council on the current stressed condition of Oakand’s streets, along with an analysis of trends and opportunities for repaving them if things don’t change. The outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Mudville Nine that day. However, a mighty New Five-Year Paving Plan is advancing to the bat, with voter approval of Measure B1. The following two maps show Draft Five-Year Paving Plans in development under two scenarios: 1) assumes current levels of funding for street rehabilitation; and 2) shows the potential repaving plan if Measure B1 is passed by voters in November. There is a big difference, with Measure B1 funding able to double the number of streets that Oakland repave.
