The Downtown Area Specific Plan’s goal is to pave the way for a more vibrant and attractive downtown area. The downtown area of Concord is planned for new infill development, with a goal of creating an active commercial and residential area where people regularly walk, bike and are served by good transit.
These types of urban downtowns can be great for bicycling and should be great for bicycling. By transforming a street into a space that is safe and welcoming to all modes of transportation, not just cars, Concord residents will be given the opportunity to take back the streets. Let’s make sure Concord does the right thing by building a bike and ped-friendly downtown area.
The downtown specific plan update was approved by city council in July. Read the Greenbelt Alliance’s recap on the downtown specific plan here.
