Get ready to ride across Alameda! On February 29, 2020, elected officials will cut the ribbon on the newest segment of the Cross Alameda Trail along Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and connecting to the existing segment in Jean Sweeney Open Space Park. Together, these segments total 1.5 miles and will provide safe access to the Webster Street business district, multiple schools, the Boys and Girls Club, and the College of Alameda. The grand opening celebration will feature the Alameda High School marching band and a Bike East Bay Family Cycling Workshop across the street starting at 11:00. Register for the workshop.
Saturday, February 29, 10:00am-12:00pm
The project includes bike and pedestrian paths along Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway from Main Street to Webster, as well as a two-way protected cycle track and two protected intersections on Atlantic between Webster and Constitution. This trail segment celebration is a major milestone toward a complete Cross Alameda Trail, which will extend from the new ferry terminal at Seaplane Lagoon all the way to the Miller-Sweeney Bridge to Fruitvale Avenue.
Local advocates with Bike Walk Alameda have been working toward this goal for years. With Jean Sweeney Park open, a two-way cycle track on Clement Avenue approved, and street construction making progress at Alameda Point, things are shaping up for almost all of the trail to be complete in the next two years.
