Here’s what we need some help with

–and if you can help, please contact Dave Campbell, BTWD Coordinator

  • Tote Bag Product Donations: help solicit product donations for the Bike to Work Day musette and tote bags given away on Bike to Work Day. We’ll set you up with appropriate letterhead and all the credentials you’ll need to enable us to stuff Bike to Work Day bags with lots of goodies;
  • Oakland Bicycle Corral at the City Hall Pancake Breakfast. The can’t miss event that the rest of California copied!
  • Bike Away from Work Party: The after work party is in the Temescal District of Oakland, Telegraph & 49th, 5:30-8:30pm. Cyclecide heavy pedal bike rodeo will entertain us with a bike show and their array of crazy bikes. Bicyclists will enjoy food, beer, prizes, awards and great music. We need help setting up and taking down, hauling stuff to and from the party, parking bikes, tabling. We plan to do a “diversity in bikes” display at the party–an array of bikes of every type from cargo to single-speed and everything in between, and put it on display at the Party. We need a volunteer to help coordinate this feature of the Party;
  • Poster Distribution: the posters for BTWD should be ready in late March and we need lots of help getting these up. We save money by not hiring a poster hanging service, but it requires lots of volunteers putting up the posters. The same goes for the bicycle safety class flyers, which you’ll be armed with as well to help distribute;
  • Bike to Work Day Council Resolutions: EBBC’s goal is to have all 33 jurisdictions in the East Bay adopt a resolution in support of Bike to Work Day. We have drafted a template resolution that can easily be tailored to your city;
  • Media Outreach: We need examples of bicyclists who are of the type that yesteryear drove and now ride a bike, either for health, to save money, reduce carbon emissions, etc. If you know a person who is a convert to bicycling and would make a good media example, let us know. We also need help tailoring our Bike to Work Day press releases to the hundreds of media outlets in the East Bay.
  • Chinese-Speaking Community Outreach: We want to reach out to the Chinese media and we need a volunteer to serve as our BTWD spokesperson to the chinese language media. We’re also getting posters printed in Chinese and Spanish for distribution, largely in Oakland;
  • Team Bike Challenge and Bike Commuter of the Year: our goal is 200 teams for the Team Bike Challenge this year and it will take work. We need you and your friends forming teams. Also, the nominations for Bike Commuter of the Year open March 16 and anyone can nominate a worthy bicyclist. Winners of the Bike Commuter of the Year Awards (Alameda and Contra Costa) receive their awards at the Bike Away from Work Party;
  • Energizer Stations: volunteers are needed to help staff energizer stations and sign up new bicycle coalition members.
