Board of Directors

Meet your Board of Directors!

Alejandro Ramirez Jasso

Interim Board Chair

Currently based in Hayward, I grew up with a huge bike influence from my dad, who has biked to work ever since my memory recalls. One of my earliest memories with a bike was when my dad would take my 2 sisters and me to school on a regular hardtail mountain bike. We would even stop for a hot drink on the way to school and I would hold it while we rode on my dad’s bike. I’m passionate about building welcoming communities that help people find a place where they feel like they belong. My first experience doing this was during my role as an officer for the Merritt College Cybersecurity Club. The club became an important part of the program and it helped keep students engaged by providing a safe space where they could get support from other students and feel part of the community. I also learned a lot from that experience and it helped me cope with my introversion and become an active advocate for the program. Since I recently moved to Hayward from Alameda, I realized I had taken the bike infrastructure in Alameda for granted. So that’s why I wanted to get involved in Bike Hayward and Bike East Bay. I’m also tech savvy, so that’s one of the main skills I like to bring to the table. I recently joined Bike Hayward and realized there were many email threads going on, so I started a Discord server (similar to Slack) to keep information easily accessible by everyone and making it easier to share updates on the latest bike-related news around Hayward.

Eric Monek Anderson

Interim Vice Chair

For Eric Monek Anderson (Oakland), cycling is about fun and the freedom to get around independently. He recognizes, however, that there are many impediments to ensuring that all communities and people in the East Bay have the same freedom to get around safely and on their terms. He admires Bike East Bay for its commitment to racial and social equity in cycling and transportation, and its ability to have fun. Eric lives in North Oakland with his wife Caitlin and is a lawyer with Farella, Braun + Martel, a San Francisco-based firm specializing in business law. He first got into cycling through (almost) all-season bike commuting in Chicago, and loves riding around the roads and trails of the East Bay.

Randy Wu

Interim Secretary

We have lived in the East Bay for many years – Berkeley, Oakland and now Piedmont where my wife and I raised our two daughters and now care for our black beagle.  I am almost entirely retired and no longer commute to work by bike, but you may see me either on my blue road bike cruising on Skyline Blvd or on my black commuter bike checking out the food at Housewives Market.  My career in the California energy industry has made me a proponent of solar power (and net zero affordable housing) for our communities.  I’m delighted to join the Board and look forward to making our streets and homes even more bike friendly.

Anne Schonfield

Board Member

My name is Anne Schonfield, I’ve lived in Berkeley since 1990 and am an active bike commuter and road cyclist. If I’m not on my bike everyday, I’ve done something wrong that day! I’ve served on the Berkeley YMCA Board of Managers for the past 6-7 years (I love the Y!) and also served on the Board of the Berkeley High School Development Group. I have a small consulting firm (Schonfield Consulting) that works with many foundations and non profits on fundraising, strategic planning, evaluation and other organizational services. I’ve heard great things about Bike East Bay and am honored to serve on the Board.

Arielle Fleisher

Board Member

I’m a seasoned transportation policy professional with over a decade of public and private sector experience advancing transportation policy solutions to achieve safe, sustainable, and equitable cities. I am an analytical thinker with strong facilitation and workshop development skills. There is nothing I love more than bringing groups of people together to solve complex problems and create opportunities for change. I would be honored to have the opportunity to support Bike East Bay and to lend my skills and experience to the organization to help it thrive.

Cailin Notch

Board Member

I joined Bike East Bay as a board member because I am passionate about biking’s important role in creating more sustainable, equitable, and joyful cities. I have a background in city planning, however, I have recently pivoted into climate adaptation and wildfire prevention work as a ‘community resilience planner’ for WRA Environmental Consultants. When I’m not working, I love to sing and recently joined the Oakland Interfaith Community Choir. I also love exploring new places, cracking jokes with friends, and ghost stories. I have a deep love for the East Bay, and I am excited to serve on this board and be a part of the movement to build thriving communities!

Corey Busay

Board Member

Corey Busay resides in Berkeley and gets around nearly everywhere by bicycle or public transportation, and is thrilled to help spread the joy of biking to all! He was unusually excited when he devised a convenient way to get to and from Truckee for snowboarding car-free, as well as being able to successfully load up an entire Thanksgiving meal for 10 people (turkey included!) on his (non cargo) bike. He looks forward to helping with new Bike East Bay initiatives like bike valet and bike trailer rentals to make it easier for more people to choose biking for their everyday tasks. Professionally, Corey works as a Portfolio Manager at a leading asset management company, where he leads the local office “Green Team Network.” Corey is also a Zero Waste Commissioner for the City of Berkeley.

I am a retired CPA. During my 30+ years career, I served nonprofit organizations. I serve as CFO on the board of Vesper Society and in the past served on the boards of Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation and A Better Way. Having lived and raised my daughters in Oakland, after retirement, I was ready to concentrate on enjoying life with my family, especially my grandchildren. Biking, running, playing golf and tennis, traveling, and grandchildren sitting became my focus and enjoyment. Unfortunately, I lost one of my grandchildren to a bike accident and became an advocate for bike and pedestrian safety. Hopefully soon, I will be able to enjoy riding a bike again. I am excited and honored to serve on the board of Bike East Bay, an organization that helped my family to find meaning in the loss of our 4-year-old Maia.

Kelsey Ring

For me, biking has been more than just a mode of transportation, it has encouraged exploration, independence, and community building. As a dedicated advocate for environmental sustainability and social justice, I believe in the power and practice of community engagement to drive positive change. With over a decade of experience in nonprofit program management, community organizing, and environmental activism, I am thrilled to use these skills to uplift Bike East Bay’s education and advocacy programs.

Biking is my joy. Oakland is my adopted home. Together those things mean a great deal to me, and Bike East Bay was one of the first ways I encountered that expanded my love of both when I moved here from SoCal. Although I began my career as a CPA and I absolutely love accounting, I now also wield the awesome power of data modeling to produce beautiful information in the form of financial reporting and data automation. I hope to bring all three to bear (accounting & finance, data analysis, and a love for biking) to help the organization forward its core tenets of justice, community, advocacy, and education.

I love Bike East Bay because I always have fun with the people I meet there and because I believe in the mission of the organization. I am particularly interested in exploring options for quick build demonstration projects and how to conform to NACTO and city standards in implementing them. I want to be a Board member because I believe there is a need for more engaged activism in my neighborhood and I want to see Bike East Bay represented and thriving here.

I first bike commuted in 1990 when I took my bike aboard a navy ship to use on liberty in foreign ports. But I rode my bike to work more consistently during shore assignments in San Diego, Ventura County, and Washington DC. I became a part of the bike community of the Bay Area when assigned to Coast Guard Island in 2009. I rode from an Alameda Victorian house across two bridges to arrive at work. I joined Bike Walk Alameda. But when we bought a house in Oakmore I learned much more about the challenges of biking in a complex urban community. As the navy moved us around for the next 10 years I switched my membership to the East Bay Bicycle Coalition, now Bike East Bay. I am a Presbyterian minister, retired navy chaplain, former co-director of Presbyterian Federal Chaplaincies, and a nonprofit consultant. I have just completed a Master of Nonprofit Administration degree at the University of San Francisco and look forward to adding whatever I can to the work of Bike East Bay and mobility justice.

Having been car free in the East Bay taught me a lot about the current state of our transportation network and gave me a unique feeling of freedom I was not expecting. I was inspired by a lot of what I saw while taking transit and biking around the East Bay. So much so I switched career paths to begin working for BART, continuing to nurture my transit obsession. I enjoy using my data analytics skills to better understand demographics of transit ridership, using my knowledge of the streets to help plan safe routes to points of interest, staying up to date on urban planning best practices and putting to work my general hands-on attitude to help out when things need doing.

Born and raised in the East Bay and currently residing in the Cherryland neighborhood of unincorporated Hayward, I am a strong labor and transportation advocate. I cut my teeth advocating with the Alameda Labor Council on pro labor initiatives as well as a little campaigning for the SF Mayor’s Race. I am a graduate of UC Berkeley Rhetoric program but what I am more proud of is a Chabot College graduate. I am currently a committee advocate for the Hayward Area Recreation District as well as an Account Executive for Samsara. When I am not working you can find me at the farmers market or chilling with my two cats Kang and Kodos. My passions are increasing alternative forms of transportation and thus creating a more equitable, safer, and healthier world!

Steven Dunbar

Board Member

Currently based in Livermore, I’m a committed transportation advocate motivated primarily by climate change. I’ve been inspired by Bike East Bay since I moved to the Bay in 2016 after graduating from Davis. Professionally, I am an electrical system engineer in Livermore, working on electric public transit buses. Privately, I organize with TriValley Citizen’s Climate Lobby, East Bay for Everyone, and of course Bike East Bay and affiliated subgroups Bike Walk Eden, Bike Walk Livermore, Bike Pleasanton, and Bike Dublin. I bring my slowly acquired knowledge of bikeway design, my passion for imagining the possibilities on streets, and my ability to explain at a council meeting the how and why of a design. Along with those skills comes a commitment to safety, equity, and sustainability, by speaking up for the real trade offs of transportation design. My skills are primarily in planning and design, but I am eager to learn the organizational leadership aspects of Bike East Bay, because we aren’t advocating for an exercise in planning, we are realizing a vision for the future.

Along with my commitment to cycling, I bring strong skills in data analysis, visualization, and an understanding of urban economics. As an empirical microeconomist, I analyze data to inform decisions and policy, translating findings into actionable recommendations. My academic background in local governance and urban development has deepened my interest in how cycling policies shape community growth. I’m eager to contribute to policy discussions that align with Bike East Bay’s mission.

Currently based in Alameda, I am a strong social justice advocate, particularly with regard to economic and race related issues. I was a founding member and Board Chair of the Alameda Multi-Cultural Community Center, on the Board of BVUMC Foundation, worked closely with Alameda Point Collaborative in their Youth Training program involving the bike shop, garden, and Youth In Action (a program I created). For the past few years at Levi’s Gran Fondo I created Team DACA (Dudes Against Cycling Apathetically) where we raised funds for the ride, which benefitted under served youth in the area. As a cyclist, bike commuter, and parent, I am also very concerned about bike safety in the East Bay, particularly in under served areas.
