San Leandro
San Leandro will see a former landfill site on the Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline transformed into a recreation area that includes a 10-acre bike skills park with courses for kids. In accordance with the district’s Land Use Plan, the site will be transformed into a mixed-use park that includes a general bike skills area, along with trails, a disc golf course and an off-leash dog area. The park is being designed by Hilride in collaboration with the regional trails department, and installation of the BIke Skills area is projected for completion by 2018.
Fremont
Newark Parks Foundation will present bike park proposals to their parks district and the City of Fremont as early as April, and the foundation has identified a vacant piece of land at the entrance of Coyote Hills Regional Park as an ideal site. East Bay residents are encouraged to build momentum for the idea by petitioning the parks district, and Fremont residents can also petition the city.
Livermore
Livermore’s parks district has agreed on the feasibility of a bike park installation, to include both mountain bike and skill-building areas. LARPD is expected to incorporate the park into its master plan by the end of this month, after which the organizers will solicit designs from park builders.
