Success: West Street Pathway Phase II approved by City Council

west street pathwayJuly 20, 2011 Update: Berkeley City Council heard your calls of support and has approved the contract for a contractor to start building the bike/ped pathway between Delaware St and Virginia St. There will be another public meeting in September to review final designs and allow for construction to start. For more info, contact: <a href=”>Dave Campbell</a> . Opposition continues to challenge the completion of the West Street Pathway in Berkeley and the City Council needs to hear from EBBC members that completing the pathway connection is important. Specifically, the Montessori School is threatening to renege on its commitment to complete the Pathway across its property and connect Strawberry Creek Park with the Ohlone Greenway <img data-cke-saved-src=”_sites=”” all=”” modules=”” wysiwyg=”” plugins=”” break=”” images=”” spacer.gif”=”” src=”/sites/all/modules/wysiwyg/plugins/break/images/spacer.gif” alt=”<–break->” title=”<–break–>” class=”wysiwyg-break drupal-content”> The City of Berkeley is proposing a well-designed multi-use pathway along the West Street alignment from Delaware St to the Ohlone Greenway. The project includes a pathway along the property immediately adjacent the Montessori School at University Ave. The design includes lighting, improved crossings at Delaware and other side streets, and signage. There is much public support for the project, including numerous cyclists and residents in the neighborhood, but a few outspoken neighbors have expressed concerns over the width of the pathway and other issues. They will be in attendance at the July 19 City Council Meeting. Council needs to hear from us! Once completed, you will get to enjoy a bikeway from Strawberry Creek Park at Bancroft to the Ohlone Greenway near North Berkeley BART. From there, you can ride north all the way up to Richmond and soon will be able to connect to the Richmond Greenway across San Pablo Ave. Please help us add a key bikeway connection in West Berkeley by voicing your support to the Berkeley City Council: WHERE: Berkeley City Hall Council Chambers - 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way July 19, 7pm Or contact your Councilmember/Mayor today: Mayor Tom Bates (510) 981-7100 P (510) 981-7199 F District 1, Linda Maio (510) 981-7110 P (510) 981-7111 F District 2, Darryl Moore (510) 981-7120 P (510) 981-7122 F District 3, Max Anderson (510) 981-7130 P (510) 981-7133 F District 4, Jesse Arreguin (510) 981-7140 P (510) 981-7144 F District 5, Laurie Capitelli (510) 981-7150 P (510) 981-7155 F District 6, Susan Wengraf (510) 981-7160 P (510) 981-7166 F District 7, Kriss Worthington (510) 981-7170 P (510) 981-7177 F District 8, Gordon Wozniak (510) 981-7180 P (510) 981-7188 F
