San Leandro’s Crosstown Corridors cycletrack projects are going to City Council for approval this Monday, November 21, and we need your help to get them across the finish line!

Thank you to everyone who turned out to comment in support of San Leandro’s protected cycletrack proposals on Bancroft Ave and Williams Street, following up on our pop-up bikeways demonstration this summer. Last night, San Leandro City Council unanimously approved safe, protected bikeways on Bancroft Ave and Williams Street.
This milestone culminates in two years of Bike East Bay coordinating high school interns doing community outreach, and countless volunteers creating three popup bikeways last August. Council underscored how ready the city is to retrofit streets for safe bicycling, and be a city where kids can walk and bike to school, even if it means changes to on-street parking storage. Next up, San Leandro will seek grants to build these safe bikeways, hopefully within two years.

This summer we partnered with staff from the City of San Leandro, staff from the consulting firm Fehr & Peers, as well as community advocates and volunteers to lead bike rides, open houses, and an amazing three pop-up bikeways in one day, collecting input on bikeway proposals for Bancroft Ave and Williams Street. The outcome of this work was a proposal for permanent, 2-way protected cycletrack installations on each street, spanning the city from north to south and from east to west, connected by the on-street East Bay Greenway project also in the works.
San Leandro City Council will be voting this Monday, November 21, on whether to adopt the corridor study and direct staff to move forward with further project design and implementation.
