"Highway 4 Mokelumne Trail Bicycle & Pedestrian Overcrossing"

Update: This event has been postponed due to a delay in the bridge construction. A new ride date will be posted as soon as the bridge opening is confirmed.

Ride with us to the new bike/walk bridge over HWY 4

This new bike/walk bridge provides a safer route between Antioch and Brentwood, including a connection to the Mokelumne Trail which continues to the east all the way through Brentwood, and to the west through Antioch and Pittsburg via the De Anza Trail to Bay Point.

On this ride made possible with support from Seamless Bay Area for Transit Month, we will explore the connection from the Antioch eBART station to the bridge, and then back along the Delta de Anza Trail.

Where:

Meet at the Antioch eBART station plaza, 1600 Slatten Ranch Rd, Antioch

When:

Saturday, September 30 – Meet up at 10 AM, ride out by 10:30 AM

ROUTE:

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43617323

This 12.4 mile route mostly follows off-street bike/walk trails, but also includes some segments with paint-only bike lanes including on busy segments of Hillcrest Road and Empire Avenue, and one short section of shared roadway with no dedicated bicycle facilities. This ride is mostly flat but has a few short uphill segments, with a total of 440 feet of elevation over the entire route.

This activity is open to everyone, but participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must wear a bicycle helmet as required by state law.

Note: Antioch gets very hot this time of year, and much of this route is not well shaded. We will stop for water and bathrooms at several places along the route, but please make sure to bring your own water bottles (insulated if you have them), sunscreen, lunch/snacks, and dress for the heat.

About the Mokelumne Trail Bridge Project:

This bridge would not have been possible without the work a lot of dedicated advocates from groups like the Delta Pedalers, as well as support from city and Caltrans staff, elected officials, and former Bike East Bay staff members. Thank you!
