East Bay Bike to Work Day in the News

This year’s Bike to Work Day was a big success here in the East Bay with over 10,000 people stopping by one of the 80 Energizer Stations across Alameda County, organized by the East Bay Bicycle Coalition.

In addition to an almost 12% increase in numbers of people biking county wide, we also saw a big increase in news coverage of biking here in the East Bay for Bike to Work Day. We are on a roll! Here are some of the stories we saw covering Bike to Work Day and the East Bay Bicycle Coalition in the paper, on the radio, and on our local news blogs:

Oakland’s official Bike to Work Day after-party kicked into high gear in Old Oakland last night. Over 600 people converged to dance, eat, drink, mingle, and just take in the atmosphere from the middle of the street.

“We saw people of all ages out enjoying bicycle carnival rides, great local food, and the company of our vibrant East Bay cycling community,” said Renee Rivera, executive director of the East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC), which spearheaded the event. “I look forward to the event growing into an Oakland institution as more and more people bike everyday here in the East Bay.”

We need your help for the best Bike to Work Day yet

Are you passionate about people biking? Are you a bike lane booster? Do you want more people out on bikes every day here on our East Bay streets? Then this is your chance to make a difference. We need to train 50 people between now and Bike to Work Day to help us spread the word about our campaigns and bring in new members to strengthen the bike movement in the East Bay.

Here at the East Bay Bicycle Coalition we have never felt more excitement for biking here in the East Bay then we do now. We are anticipating an explosion of people biking this Bike to Work Day. Yes, Bike to Work Day is rapidly approaching. It is hard to believe with the recent cold and rainy weather, but before you know it wildflower season will be upon us, and cyclists will be coming out of the woodwork and flooding our streets.

It is our goal, at the East Bay Bicycle Coalition, to have trained volunteers at 25 of our most popular energizer stations, all across Alameda and Contra Costa counties, spreading the good word about our campaigns, and bringing in new members. This could be you!

It is a 2006 Specialized Hardrock Pro Bike. It is the black/gray colored bicycle. Had a small pouch under the seat for storing stuff from Livermore cyclery. Had a water bottle holder, a holder for a small air pump and it had a spedometer on the handle bars. It was very dusty as it had just been ridden up the Plesanton ridge.
