Draft Alameda Bicycle Master Plan UPDATE Available for Public Review

September 27, 2010 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

And finally, a city that understands that bicycling is good for the environment and because of this, bicycle plans do not require the same environmental review afforded freeway widening projects such as the Caldecott Tunnel 4th Bore. A mitigated negative declaration will do just fine.

The City of Alameda’s Bicycle Master Plan Update is complete. The Bicycle Plan and the Initial Study describing the anticipated environmental impacts of the Plan can be accessed at the links below. Hard copies are available for on-site review at all 3 library branches and the Public Works Department (950 West Mall Square). The City is seeking a Mitigated Negative Declaration for the Plan, which is scheduled to be reviewed by the Planning Board on Monday September 27, 2010.

description

Believed to be in the jurisdiction of the EBRPD - Crab Cove. There are multiple significant bumps in the asphalt path caused by tree roots. Someone made an attempt to highlight the bumps with paint - but because of the slight hill on approach it is likely that they will not be seen. One bump would be OK-ish - but there are several bumps spaced across a few feet. Seems almost guaranteed to throw a cyclist.

Harbor Bay Parkway, northbound. Uneven asphalt, cracks, tree roots, no street lights at all. It would be nice if they would stripe a bike lane, too. It looks wide enough.
