Title: Membership Manager

Reports to: Development Director

 

Organization Overview

 

Bike East Bay (formerly the East Bay Bicycle Coalition) is looking for a highly motivated, talented individual to direct our membership and volunteer programs. Bike East Bay was established in 1972 to promote the interests of bicyclists in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Our 4,500-member organization now includes local working groups throughout the East Bay. In addition to advocating for better bicycling conditions, Bike East Bay also coordinates Bike to Work Day promotion in the East Bay and has a successful bicycle safety education program offering free classes. This is a very exciting time for bicycling and Bike East Bay is poised for growth. 

 

This is a perfect job for an analytical thinker with an outgoing spirit who learns fast and takes initiative. Bike East Bay is a rapidly growing organization with opportunity for staff to learn and grow into greater responsibility. Training will be available for the right candidate to gain skills in technology, analysis, volunteer management, and more.

 

Membership Program: Oversee Bike East Bay’s program to set goals and implement strategies to retain the current 4,500 members and expand the base of members to meet the organization’s strategic goals.

 

Volunteer Program: Carry out all aspects of a volunteer program, including volunteer recruitment, training, management, communications, and evaluation of the program. Manage record keeping and data tracking of all volunteer activities. 

 

Duties Include: 

• Develop and implement strategies and materials for annual membership recruitment and retention, including organizing mailings, email appeals, phone banks and outreach at events

• Manage member, donor and contact database, including membership and donation processing, mailings, and data entry

• Working with the Development Director, create customized donor and member reports for tracking and analysis 

• Support the Development Director in fundraising efforts, including mail and email appeals, and events

• Support and administer Bike East Bay’s Drupal-based website

• Help create member-related messaging and other communications

• Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to database data entry, member and donor mailings, and staffing events 

• Manage and lead regular volunteer nights

• Oversee Valet Bicycle Parking program and manage Valet Coordinator

• Other duties as assigned

 

Relevant Skills and Experience

 

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

 

• Managing a database (preferably a donor and membership database; CiviCRM a plus)

• Volunteer management or appropriate related experience

• Quickly learn to use desktop software and web-based services. Skilled in Microsoft Excel and Word, mail merge, databases and analysis. As a plus, have experience with basic web design, Drupal, HTML, CSS, and/or PHP.

• Highly organized, with excellent attention to detail 

• Handle and prioritize multiple tasks at once

• Excellent written, oral, and electronic communicator

• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to build relationships and motivate volunteers

• Comfortable communicating with and directing a diverse variety of individuals

• Demonstrated passion for making the East Bay a better place to bike

• Professional presence and attitude

• Self-motivated and a good sense of humor

 

This full-time position will require some work on week nights and weekends.
