Richmond Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee Recap

Monday, June 11, 2012 - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Recap of June 11, 2012 Meeting:

  • The Richmond BPAC discussed the planned Bay Trail Extension to Pt. Molate and approved a recommendation for a preferred alignment along the west side of I-580. This is the least expensive of the alignments and provides a more direct connection to Pt. Molate from Castro St. The project is still in design phase and we expect to see final designs soon. The Richmond BPAC is sending a letter to Caltrans and the City of Richmond with their support.
  • New bikeways have been striped on Robert Miller Dr. and Filbert St and new bike lanes on 37th St are in the works. The new bike lanes on Robert Miller Dr are a first, to our knowledge, where the contracting crew, while striping the bike lanes, called the city traffic planer and asked if they could extend the bike lane striping all the way thru the sweeping right turn at the intersection with San Pablo. Great work contractors!
  • The Richmond BPAC is taking up the issue of bike parking and bike counts and will be placing these items on their July 9, 5:30-7:30pm at City Hall. Join us and find out how you can help get more bike racks installed in Richmond, and help us with our Fall bike count program.
