EBBC General Meeting - International Insights on Transportation and Land Use

Wednesday, September 15, 2010 - 7:30pm to 9:00pm

ebbc logoJoin us at this month’s meeting for a talk with special guest Jason Meggs. Jason will be reporting back on a year of adventure travel including attendance at three major transportation planning conferences: New Partners for Smart Growth in Seattle; Velo-City Global in Copenhagen; and Towards Carfree Cities IX in York, England. Along the way we’ll glean international insights into transportation and land use policy not only from the content of the conferences, but from the diverse encounters of Jason’s journey, from indigenous mountain farms in Central America to screaming busways of Scandinavia; from Amtrak’s starlight express to Copenhagen’s first bicycle parade in a generation, replete with rolling brass band. Jason will also brief us in on some of his latest research on urban planning and public health, including that age old conundrum of bicyclists and stop signs. Jason’s travels began with sponsorship from EBBC to attend the New Partners for Smart Growth conference shortly after leading our December-January campaign for what he likes to call the “Bay Bridge West Span Bicycle-Pedestrian-Maintenance-Safety-Climate Mitigation-Tourism-Fun-Path.” Roll on down to hear his multimedia presentation with video, photos, and slides from conference presentations.
